Pin It to Win It?

Yes I just titled this blog “Pin It to Win It”.  Not one of my favorite titles and the reference really has nothing to do with that awful show with the host with really bad hair.

Anyways, it seems that the next “big” social media is here, Pinterest.  Well, it’s actually been around for a while, but over the last year it has started to grow like crazy.  In August 2011, Pinterest had a little over a 1.2 million users, but has now exploded over the 4 million user mark!  While compared to Facebook, Pinterest is like a single snowflake in a blizzard.  But savvy marketers are already starting to take notice of this burgeoning social media.

In their own words:

“Pinterest is a Virtual Pinboard.  Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web.  People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes.  Best of all, you can browse pinboards created by other people.”

Pinterest makes it very easy to add items to your page, by adding a “Pin” tool to your web browser.  See a cool pair of shoes you want to buy?  Pin it to your fashion board!  See a vintage comic book that you’ve been searching all your life for?  Pin it to your “Some day!” board.

I’ve got a few ideas about how marketers can use Pinterest, but I would like to hear from you.  What’s your Pinterest idea?  Are you a Pinterest fanatic?
